Wine tasting
An Overview
All the serious, learned opinions you’ll read about wine are just that: opinions. Aromas, tastes and flavours, and how they’re perceived and described, are entirely subjective. You’ll experience a wine in your own unique way, which means your description and judgement are as valid as any anyone else’s. So while we can provide hints, there are no hard- and-fast rules for describing wines: just let your senses, imagination and past experience guide you, and you won’t go far wrong. Because whether you’re just starting out or a lifelong connoisseur, ultimately you get what you get!
Please remember...
Sampling lots of different wines at a tasting is tiring for your taste buds. It can, of course, also affect your judgement in other ways, too. Professional tasters know this, which is why they spit out each wine after they’ve tried it. We’re not suggesting you do the same, but we do urge you to enjoy your wine responsibly.
dead palate society

At Hampshire Wine Shippers we do a lot of wine tastings and many people have said to us that their palate is dead or needs educating.
There are so many wines you can taste, from the best quality to the worst vinegar but how do you go about educating your palate and understanding more about how a wine is made, structure, nose mouth, and many other wine words.
